I’ve been working on potentially creating a minor arcana for my tarot deck Occult Ornithology. It’s obviously a chance for me to include some birds that I feel were glaringly missing from the major arcana.
While I haven’t doodled any tarot cards today, I got warmed up for bird drawing by drawing European robins.
They’re such an iconic bird and I’d love to include them in the Wands suit as robins are considered firebirds in folklore and wands are associated with the element fire.
I’d love to work into my tarot designs with decoration and pattern like the illustration above, i would love to relax my drawing style more and have fun with patterns and designs.
I’ve worked with robins in my work a lot, it would be nice to have a more design orientated approach to a tarot card featuring one….stay tuned for the results!
